Attic Monitor System

What we are looking for : Good Attic Health

  • Temperature: during the summer we would like to see the maximum temperature of the attic under 140°, and preferably more like 120° on the hottest of days. Attic temperatures generally range around 180° to 220° in an attic that does not have an attic fan.

  • Temperature: During the winter we do not want to see the temperature of the attic much higher than the temperature outside. This ensures that there is not a leak in the insulation letting the energy of the home escape.

  • Humidity: during the summer or winter we do not want to see the humidity in the attic greater than in the home. Humidity is the primary cause of insulation collapse, and so this is one of the biggest benefits of a solar attic fan: it exhausts the humidity and saves the insulation.
How to Read the Attic Monitor:
Our attic monitor helps makes sure that our solar star attic fan is keeping your attic cool during the summer and dry during the winter.  Generally you will place the Inside Monitor inside your home, no more that 100 ft from the attic fan on the roof. We can have up to 3 attic monitors on different 3 different channels per home.

  1. Inside temperature/humidity : this is the temperature and humidity at the inside monitor, or effectively inside the house or were ever this monitor is placed. Attic temperature/humidity: this is the reading from the attic and represents the temperature and humidity inside the attic. this sensor can read temperatures from -4°to 158° ( it will read a display of LL if it is out of range) and a humidity range of 15% to 95% ( again it will read LL if it is outside of this range). Channel inside monitor is scanning: this needs to be set to the attic monitor channel. It is very small and hard to read, so a cheater technique is to just push the channel button and wait a little bit if you cannot read what channel it is actually on.Min/Max button: this simply gives you the minimum and maximum temperature and humidity for the day. It’s an easy way to review how your attic was doing during the hot part of the day.

Troubleshooting Guide:

  1. From time to time the Inside monitor may lose the remote sensor in the attic, this is pretty common and often due to other radio frequency interference ( other temperature sensors, Wi-Fi, etc.) or battery death. To troubleshoot this just hold down the channel button for 5 seconds, this resets the search for the attic unit.

    1. If the primary unit cannot find the remote sensor after holding down the channel button for 5 seconds, it can mean that there is too much radio interference on the channel that was set, and we need to change the channel of the remote unit. If this is the problem. Feel free to call us to schedule a quick 10 min. appointment to do this.

  2. The attic side sensor only updates the control unit every few minutes, I believe that this is a battery saving technique. By holding down the channel button for 5 seconds you will force an update early.

  3. Channel: your attic sensor was originally set to a channel. If you tap the channel button it will scroll through the three channels available, and then to a rotation mode that rotate through all three channels automatically every 5 seconds. so there is a total of four positions the channel can be set for. Just reset it by capping it until it is in the channel of your unit is set to receive. It is also good to know that the channel number is hard to read, because it's in a little box on the screen and very small.

  4. If you see ; LL% the humidity reading area, this is very common. What it means is the humidity was out of the range of the sensor, either the humidity was too high or too low to read. In the attic, when the temperature gets really hot the air gets really dry, and this usually throws us out of the range the humidity sensor will read. If LL% shows up it means that the attic is below 15% humidity, and that's what we want.

Warranty for Attic Monitor: 1 year from installation. Batteries will die over time, We are happy to replace these batteries for you. Service charge will apply or Free service if accompanying a Free in Home Estimate.
